Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! How are you all today? I hope good!
Today is my stop in the Shadow Frost blog tour by FFBC and I’m glad to be a part of it. I do have a review and some favourite quotes for you guys.
And now without further ado, let’s start with this post!
IN THE KINGDOM OF AXARIA, a darkness rises.
Some call it a monster, laying waste to the villagers and their homes.
Some say it is an invulnerable demon summoned from the deepest abysses of the Immortal Realm.
Many soldiers from the royal guard are sent out to hunt it down.
Not one has ever returned.
When Asterin Faelenhart, Princess of Axaria and heir to the throne, discovers that she may hold the key to defeating the mysterious demon terrorizing her kingdom, she vows not to rest until the beast is slain. With the help of her friends and the powers she wields — though has yet to fully understand — Asterin sets out to complete a single task. The task that countless, trained soldiers have failed.
To kill it.
But as they hunt for the demon, they unearth a plot to assassinate the Princess herself instead. Asterin and her companions begin to wonder how much of their lives have been lies, especially when they realize that the center of the web of deceit might very well be themselves. With no one else to turn to, they are forced to decide just how much they are willing to sacrifice to protect the only world they have ever known.
That is, of course… if the demon doesn’t get to them first.Add the book to your Goodreads to-read shelf

What I liked
First of all the world building was really amazing! I loved the world from the beginning on and I honestly can’t complain. There were some flaws in it but who or what hasn’t any flaws?
The story also had a very great start and made me want to read more immediately after that beginning. The chapter wasn’t annoying and immediately tackled the subject. I’m always amazed as a reader when books make me passionate from the beginning on.
Shadow Frost did have amazing characters with a great storyline and I’m always glad when they do. No character was annoying or “useless”. Sometimes authors add characters just like that, probably like a filler but here no character felt like a filler. Which was great to be honest, because I felt that I could relate with all the character and even though some things annoyed me I’m still glad that I came across all these amazing characters.
What I didn’t like
One of the things that annoyed me the most was the pacing in this book and therefore I also gave it such a “low” rating compared to what I would usually do. I found the pacing to be very slow at some times and then very fast at others where it definitely shouldn’t be. The pacing was not very coherent. There was no in-between and I think that an in-between pacing would have worked just fine here.
At some point in the book I only wanted to stop it because it didn’t work out for me as the pacing got way too slow during the middle part. But I didn’t and I’m happy that I didn’t. Don’t get me wrong! But this book exhausted me so much. And it’s definitely a book where you need the time to read it. It’s not a book that you’re going to devour in a day or two. This might also be a big problem I had with it because I’m not really used to such a slow reading pace.
Overall, Shadow Frost is a great fantasy novel and if you want a book that you most certainly won’t finish in a day, meaning that you have more time to read an amazing storyline, then this is the book for you!
“Emerald eyes stared back, glimmering with the flames of candlelight.”
“She slammed the door in his stupid face.”
“He put a sword in her hand and told her to try and beat him up, which didn’t strike her as particularly brotherly.”
“[…]causing her to crash face-first into the wood with a thunk.”
“[…]his laughter pealing through the corridor like an off-key bell.”
“Rumor had it that someone once tried to stab her in the heart, but the sword had shattered instead.”
“He clasped his hands to his chest. “That’s fantastic! I’m so proud of you!” She swatted him. “Orion.” ” Right, that’s terrible.””
“”The princess is not meant to be handled like a sack of flour,” he growled.”
“And spectacularly handsome, but still a total ass.”
“Despite herself, Asterin snickered. After all that suspense … “Your name is Quinnie? No wonder you didn’t want to tell us.” “
” “What in the hell do you think you’re doing? I could have killed you!” she yelled. “That would have been awfully amibitous of you,” “
” ” Have you ever heard of using a door?” “
