OWLS Readathon 2019 |Week 1

Day 1

I started listening to the audiobook of Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James on my way home from uni. Let me say that I was shocked when I saw how many hours it takes to listen to the audiobook. The length is 24hours. 24! 😮 Let’s hope that I will be able to finish it this month in time. BLRW is my book for the Charms exam and so far I really like it. I’m 9% in.

Day 2

In the morning I listened to BLRW but had to stop half an hour later because it was too loud on the bus. I suspect however a problem with my headphones. Anyone else having the ones from Apple but the ones that still come with the cable (iPhone 7)? I have mine since July but I don’t know I have a feeling that I hear less and less and my ears aren’t the problem.

After my lectures, I listened to the audiobook again at 4 p.m. but I didn’t hear much because of all the wind and I stopped an hour later when I got home. I’m now 17% in but not sure what to think about the book because I didn’t hear much due to loudness in the bus and headphones not working correctly.

Day 3

Didn’t listen to anything nor did I read another book. I was way too exhausted. Will continue tomorrow.

Day 4

Didn’t listen to anything either. I don’t know what I have but I’m so tired these last few days.

Day 5

I only listened this morning for an hour at BLRW. Can I say that I love the voice of the narrator? I’m now at 21 % and this book is soooooo long but I like it so far. But seriously I still can’t get over the fact that it takes 24 hours to listen to it. 24! I will never finish it or at least not in this lifetime 😅

I also started with Disgrace by J.M.Coetzee it is a very small book and it’s for my Care of Magical Creatures class. Fun fact for this book. When I bought it I thought that it was a story about a dog that got abused or something like that because there is a dog on the cover. But I guess that I’m completely wrong about that one. I probably should have checked the synopsis of this one before buying it all these years ago. However, I don’t think that I will regret this buy. Have any of you read it already? Please let me know in the comments below because I literally never heard about this book before. I just know that the author won a few awards like the Nobel Prize in 2003 and only because it’s written on the cover. So far I think that I’m enjoying it. The main character is a bit confusing because he knows that he is doing something bad and illegal but he stills pursues the one thing that he absolutely shouldn’t do. I know for sure however that I will not pity him when this thing will be discovered. And I know that it will because it’s written in the synopsis. I won’t feel bad because I’m also kind of disgusted by the whole thing he does what he thinks etc. Disgusted is probably not the right term but I don’t really like the whole thing he does. I’m not triggered by it but yeah I simply don’t understand his actions.

Day 6

I won’t get anything done today. The weekends are pretty busy for me. I’ve only read half of a chapter in Disgrace but didn’t manage to get more done.

Day 7

Last day of this week and the first week of the Readathon done. I continued reading a bit for my Care of Magical Creatures class and I didn’t note which page I’m in but I think that so far I have read at least 50 pages or even a little bit more. I don’t remember where I stopped reading in the evening and I don’t have the book with me to verify but I guess that I’m probably on page 58 or something like that. So far I really like Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee even though the main character is a pain in the ass (sorry!) so far.

What about you? Do you also participate in the readathon? What career are you pursuing and what books did you read this past week? Please let me know in the comments below!
