Today I’m sharing with you my thoughts on Ember Burning the 1st book in the Trinity Forest Trilogy.
Without further ado, let’s start with the book review!
Senior year was supposed to be great–that’s what Ember’s friend Maddie promised at the beginning of the year. Instead, Ember Trouvé spends the year drifting in and out of life like a ghost, haunted by her parents’ recent, tragic death.
At home, she pores over her secret obsession: pictures of missing kids– from newspaper articles, from grocery store flyers– that she’s glued inside a spiral notebook. Like her, the people are lost. Like her, she discovers, they had been looking for a way to numb their pain when they disappeared.
When Ember finds herself in Trinity Forest one day, a place locals stay away from at all costs, she befriends a group of teenagers who are out camping. Hanging out with them in the forest tainted with urban legends of witchcraft and strange disappearances, she has more fun than she can remember having. But something isn’t right.
The candy-covered wickedness she finds in Trinity proves to be a great escape, until she discovers she can never go home. Will Ember confront the truth behind her parents’ death, or stay blissfully numb and lose herself to the forest forever?

# What I liked
I liked how the idea was not used before by any other author. At least I haven’t read anything like Ember Burning before! So I really liked the story building. I found myself amazed by the story since the first few pages. And this is not always happening for every book. Even though I’m a reader that’s easy to please!
The story is set in a paranormal and fantasy setting with a mysterious forest and missing teenagers. But it was still “realistic”! Let me explain! Unfortunately, teenagers that go missing is happening quite often and using this setting even though it’s “fantasy” felt still real. Something that could happen in real life! I hope this was clear. I can’t explain it otherwise because then I would spoil the whole story and that wouldn’t be fun. But I’m sure, that if you read the book, that you’ll know immediately what I meant!
Like I mentioned earlier I really liked the idea of Ember Burning and the story intrigued me. I want more of it! And I can’t wait to start reading the second book in the trilogy!
That cover also looks pretty mysterious and it’s working really well with the story of the book. I’m usually no one that likes people on book covers but in this case, it’s fine.
Last but not least I liked that plot twist! I honestly didn’t even think for a second that what happened would be happening! I was in shock. But positively shocked! I thought of something else but hey it’s great when the author surprises you!
# What I disliked
There is only one thing that I have to criticize but it’s honestly nothing major. (for me!) I didn’t really like the abuse of drugs and rape parts in the book. Especially the part where one of the characters got raped. I wished that I had known that before so that I could have been prepared for what would happen in the story. But otherwise, I have nothing negative to say about the book!
# Favourite Character
My favourite character in Ember Burning was the main character Ember.
Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I was kind of disappointed when it ended because I wanted to have more. I know there are two other books in the series but I wanted to read more and in the first book! The ending promised an interesting continuation for the rest of the series! So I definitely recommend Ember Burning to everyone!
